There are lots of ways to get involved at the Hippodrome
Be a Theatre Bum!
The Hippodrome has almost 500 seats in the auditorium and some of them date back to the opening of the building in 1908. Obviously, with all the bottoms that have used these over a century, they are in need of a bit of tender loving care. Also, last year, the Hippodrome was flooded and all of the stalls seating had to be ripped out and replaced, so the older, originals upstairs, have become all the more precious. Through the efforts of our volunteers we've already managed to refurbish or replace over half of the existing seats. With your help we're hoping to replace even more this year.
What is a Theatre Bum?
Every seat needs a bum to keep it warm and loved. We're asking people to donate £70 to sponsor the refurbishment of one of the original seats in the circle. These wooden back chairs are rare examples of original Edwardian theatre seats but they're not as comfy as you'd like them to be! So, our team are refurbishing them with new padding, maintenance on the wooden frames and a new upholster of beautiful red velvet.
What do I get for becoming a Theatre Bum?
Everyone who donates £70 will receive a certificate to say you are an official Hippodrome Theatre Bum as well as inclusion on a framed display to be put up in the theatre thanking donors. Best of all, we will put a plaque bearing your name on a refurbished seat which you can sit in every full main house production.
To become a Theatre Bum you can send a cheque made payable to TAODS to:
Theatre Bums, Hippodrome Theatre, Halifax Road, Todmorden, OL14 5BB
