TAODS is delighted to present Catch Me If You Can as our 2027 musical production!

 

Based on the hit film and the incredible true story, Catch Me If You Can is the high-flying musical comedy about chasing your dreams and not getting caught. Nominated for four Tony awards, including Best Musical, this delightfully entertaining show was created by a Tony Award-winning "dream team," with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime) and a swinging score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray).

 

Seeking fame and fortune, precocious teenager, Frank Abagnale, Jr. runs away from home to begin an unforgettable adventure. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. When Frank's lies catch the attention of FBI agent, Carl Hanratty, though, Carl pursues Frank across the country to make him pay for his crimes.

Audition Information

Please find below details of the auditions. At TAODS all our productions are open auditions and anyone is welcome to attend. For our adult society musicals cast members must be at least 16 years old by the performance.

 

For Catch Me if you can we will be holding an initial get together where you can come along to a relaxed evening, meet the production team and find out more about the show. There will be an evening to learn and practice the audition dance and songs before the auditions will then take place in a workshop format. We hope to see lots of people there, both regular faces and new ones too!

The get-together for this exciting show will be held on Tuesday 3rd November at 7.30 in the Hippodrome foyer. 

 

The follow up workshop will be on Tuesday 10th November - venue TBC

 

The auditions will take place on the afternoon of Sunday 15th November - venue TBC

Characters

Please note: Playing age refers to the character on stage rather than the age of the actor

Frank Abagnale Jr. - Our story's conniving protagonist. He is a slick, handsome and youthful con artist. Growing up admiring his father who was a well-loved, although hopeless businessman, he takes the life lessons he learns from him to then cheat his way to success. He eventually falls in love with Brenda and desperately tries to change his ways. He is fast talking, charming and must be able to play up to an audience.

 

Lead Male

Strong acting, singing and good movement.

Vocal Range: Tenor (G2 – C5)

Playing Age 18-25

Carl Hanratty - The FBI agent leading the investigation and search for Frank Jr. A knowledgeable and habitual workaholic who is obsessed with the pursuit and idolizes the moment he catches his perp. He is very street smart and gruff and believes without fault in the letter of the law. However his work obsession covers up a private life of loneliness and depression.

 

Lead Male

Strong acting, singing and movement.

Vocal Range: Baritone (G2 – G4)

Playing Age 30-50

Frank Abagnale Sr. - Frank Jr.'s father. He is an inspiration when it comes to swindling. Upbeat and fast-talking, he believes he can always make another move to come out on top. That is until he undergoes a series of progressive failures where he loses everything and ends up a miserable drunk.

Supporting Male

Range: Baritone (F2 – G#4)

Playing Age 40-60

Paula Abagnale - Frank Jr.'s gorgeous mother. She met Frank Sr. in France, during the war, but has fallen out of love. Caring and loving, with an underlying resentment toward her husband and son.

Supporting Female

Vocal Range: Alto (A3 – C5)

Playing Age 40-60

Brenda Strong - A young, hard-working nurse, who is a little insecure and naïve. She meets Frank Jr. in hospital when he begins working there as a doctor. At first she avoids his attentions but eventually comes to trust him.

Alto (G3 – A5)

Playing Age 20-30

Carol Strong - Brenda's traditional mother. She is talkative and boisterous.

Playing Age 40-60

Roger Strong - Brenda's conservative father. He is at first very stern and interrogatory but reveals himself to be deeply romantic and fun loving.
