Todmorden Hippodrome Theatre

Stage out to Auditorium

The Hippodrome Theatre is owned and run by Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (TAODS).

TAODS is a registered charity and volunteer led community group. Together our volunteers have run the Hippodrome for over 50 years, securing the future of this wonderful building when so many towns have lost theirs.

We think it's remarkable that a small town nestling in the heart of the Pennines, surrounded by hills and a fair distance from any big towns or cities still has it's Edwardian Theatre with almost 500 seats that was built to entertain the thousands of mill workers that lived in Todmorden. The mills may well be gone but the Hippodrome still stands and has benefited from many thousands of pounds of refurbishment work over the years. It's a legacy for all the volunteers that have dedicated millions of hours of their time to this building over the years along with the generosity and support of many local people and organisations.

Please use the links below to find out more about the theatre and the town.

You can read a short history of the theatre, find out how to find us and what you can expect from a visit to our beautiful town and its theatre. and if you fall in love with this wonderful theatre, why not consider becoming a member and supporting our work. Even better once you have signed up, come down and get involved in volunteering. We promise you that you won't regret it.
